Emily Anderson, Writing Mentor: Emily is a senior hailing from Le Mars, Iowa: the Ice Cream Capital of the World. She’s double majoring in English and writing while minoring in Spanish. Her favorite form of punctuation is the ampersand. The former athlete and current nerd enjoys writing about environmental issues and other kinds of nonfiction. She aspires to one day be an English and writing professor, mostly for an excuse to wear sweaters like the great Dr. Adam Frisch.
Rachel Mairose, Writing Mentor: Rachel is a senior from Kimball, South Dakota, and is majoring in English and political science. Though she doesn’t have a career in mind yet, she dreams of living in the country and raising goats….if only there was a goat-herding degree at BCU! Rachel credits her mom to giving her a love of literature through reading bedtime stories aloud; some of Rachel’s favorites were Heidi, Charlotte’s Web, and The Chronicles of Narnia.
Angelica Mercado, Writing Mentor: Angelica is a junior art/writing double major from Fremont, Nebraska. She plays soccer and is a student ambassador at BCU. She is fluent in Spanish and sarcasm, an avid reader, a nature-lover, a Bukowski enthusiast, and a neurotic artist. Her favorite book is Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and Nietzsche, Wilde, Emerson, and Bukowski, are just a few of her favorite deceased people. Angelica still uses the Oxford comma, claims to love long walks to the refrigerator, and is easily amused by things found inappropriate by others.
Nikki Howard, Writing Mentor: Nikki is a junior double majoring in English and writing with a tentative art minor on the side. Born and raised in a suburb of Des Moines, she enjoys the small community at Briar Cliff. She has a tendency to repeat herself multiple times just to make sure she’s made a point and has found no cure. She also obsesses over Disney a bit too much to be normal.
Taylor Craig, Writing Mentor: Taylor is a senior writing and graphic design double major. She also exerts her extreme athleticism by participating on the Briar Cliff golf team. Growing up in Hastings, Nebraska, she has learned how to become easily entertained with nothing at all. She finds joy in misspellings and grammatical errors in printed material and hopes to one day design and edit such documents.
Megan Aschoff, Writing Mentor: Megan is a junior from Norfolk, Nebraska majoring in secondary education and biology. She runs on the Briar Cliff cross country and track teams and is involved in a ridiculously long list of other student activities. When she is not busy studying or running from one activity to another, she can be found in her room watching action movies or curling up with a very good book. Writing is one of her personal hobbies and she is a frequent fangirl of several authors and popular book series.
Melanie Krieps Mergen, Writing Mentor: Melanie is a sophomore English and music major from Algona, Iowa. She currently has four work study jobs and is involved in a somewhat extensive list of activities on campus. In a perfect world, she would be a singer-songwriter or a published author. She loves animals, hates litter, and her drink of choice is chocolate milk.
